Hello and welcome!

Updated: Mar 17, 2020

Hi everyone! Well, this is as good a time as any to start a blog! I know many of you are sitting at home, so here is some literature to keep you entertained a minute or two of your day. Everyone, please bear with me as I start this blogging journey. I am not the best "writer" (I design, not write for a living!) so expect to see an error here in there in my writing. My husband always tells me that I write like I talk, not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Anyways, I will start this first post just introducing myself for those who don't know me. My name is Stephanie Drietz, and I own and run my own freelance graphic design business called Drietz Designs (clever right?). I started freelancing full time when my oldest son was 6 months old. This summer, I will have been doing it for 9 years. It has been the best (and hardest) 9 years of my life. I can get into more of that down the road.

My other job is being a mom (and wife, too, if you want to look at that as being a job). I have been married for 11 years to my amazingly supportive husband, and CFO of Drietz Designs, Tom. We have 3 boys (#boymom). Dominic is 9 years old and in 3rd grade, Simon is 5 years old (almost 6!) and in kindergarten. And just when we thought I would have all the free time in the world with both of those kids in school, we decided to add a third boy to the Drietz crew. Ezra was born in October and is just over 5 months old. I have learned, and still am learning, how to be a work from home mom. Check out a some pics of my kiddos below....aren't they the cutest?

I graduated from MSU Moorhead with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in graphic design. From there, I held a couple different jobs doing marketing and design work. Since being a freelancer, I have been able to design for so many different types of businesses! I have worked with baseball teams, chiropractors, non-profits, promotional companies, banks, churches, food companies, and so many more. I have been able to design logos, magazines, flyers, brochures, even an escalator graphic, just to name a few. I specialize in all things print! Plus, I work with many companies on their social media and web graphics. I love design! I love the endless ideas and things I can get my hands on to design.

I am sure this space will evolve as I go. Going into this I wanted to strictly write only about design. I wanted to put together blogs showing everyone how I do it, elements of design, why everyone needs it, etc. The more I have thought about it, the more I wanted to include write ups about my life as a work from home mom. I have a chaotic mix between both jobs. I am hoping I can invite you a little bit into my life with how I balance (and fail sometimes) between each of these roles. A typical day in my life consists of working on my laptop in between preparing breakfast, school projects, nursing a baby, changing diapers, cleaning up behind a house full of dudes, and just trying to provide and thrive. Some days are easy, and I think I was made for this. Other days, especially now being quarantined day after day, I rethink it. So, join me. Follow along with the circus life of a work from home mom! I am doing my very best to be a great mom, as well as bring in an income to provide for my family. Following my blog is a HUGE support from you - so thank you in advance for reading my words. If there are any topics you can think of that I should cover, leave a comment!
